The Three O’s Of Eyecare
An optician makes, repairs, measures, and adjusts eyeglasses. This person is usually the most knowledgeable about eyeglass frames, lenses, and the latest technology.
An optometrist is the most common type of eye doctor. After receiving a Bachelor’s degree, the student enters a school of optometry for a four-year program of training to become a general eye doctor. An optometrist excels at performing a comprehensive eye exam and prescribing eyeglasses, which includes evaluating the coordination and health of the eye. They can also do special testing for conditions like dry eyes or itchy eyes. An optometrist can also prescribe medications for problems like conjunctivitis or remove a foreign body from the eye.
An ophthalmologist is a medical doctor who specializes in the eye and is trained to perform surgeries on the eye. Many ophthalmologists subspecialize in particular areas such as glaucoma and cataracts or, for example, a retinal specialist can diagnose and treats problems in the back of the eye.

Dr. Bona graduated in 1991 from the New England College of Optometry after attending Salem State College. In addition to Dr. Bona, at Custom Eyecare we also have two opticians on duty with over 30 years of experience. Our supporting staff is also very knowledgeable and helpful.
In the last 15 years, Dr. Bona has formed numerous professional relationships with many specialists in the area. This enables patients to receive care from the most appropriate doctor, in an area that is convenient to them.
